Structural bodywork is a style of manual therapy intended to improve joint mobility, postural alignment, and ease of movement and glide between connective tissue layers. This is primarily accomplished by interfacing with the myofascial system, at times including active or passive joint mobility exercises to encourage the nervous system to integrate new movement patterns, release protective muscle guarding, and increase range of motion.
There are two kinds of available sessions:
Introductory / Maintenance sessions: For those who are curious about structural bodywork and want to get an idea of what this work looks like and how it may help them, look no further. These sessions will draw primarily on my training in Myoskeletal Alignment Therapy (MAT) pioneered by the late Erik Dalton (for more information visit: https://erikdalton.com/). MAT sessions can be great as bi-weekly or monthly (or more) maintenance for clients looking to reduce symptoms of chronic pain, supportive and supplemental to an athletic endeavor or simply to reduce stress. They can also serve as a jumping off point into a deeper, more thorough project of bodywork which leads us into our second kind of session:
Series Work: This is a deep intervention of weekly sessions meant to have a clear beginning, middle, and end. We call this a project of structural bodywork where we will specifically identify a major feature in a client's postural pattern and work to ease the myofascial relationships contributing to the pattern over a series of sessions (I am currently offering a 3-series and in training to learn a the full 12 series of Anatomy Trains Structural Integration, more from the founder here: https://www.anatomytrains.com/about-us/about-tom-myers/).
The 3-Series:
Each session begins with a thorough body reading assessment, taking note of postural patterns that may contribute to chronic pain or restricted movement followed by intentional manual therapy techniques designed to work with and affect change throughout the fascial system. In session one we seek to affect structural relationships between the feet, legs, hips and pelvis; in session two we follow the breath into the rib cage, abdomen, shoulder girdle and arms; and in session 3 we tackle the spine tying the first two sessions together. This project is best completed once a week for three consecutive weeks. Our intention is to help create stable, lasting, balanced change in structural relationships that you, the client, can continue to work with on your own over time.
Client Notes:
Myoskeletal Alignment Therapy sessions: offered in 30, 45, 60, 75 or 90 minutes sessions
3-Series sessions: 90 minutes sessions required; leaving time for body reading, manual therapy, and client “landing” or integration
Proper attire: full coverage underwear is ideal, something you’ll be comfortable standing while we take note of postural postures; sports bra and loose fitting shorts are welcome but not ideal.
Do not wear lotion the day of the session, if you do we will have to reschedule due to slippery skin
Pricing: $200 for series sessions (90 min), $135 / hour for Mysoskeletal Alignment Therapy (MAT)
